246 - Cases of Conspiracy 15: The Hinterkaifeck Murders
In March 1922 in the Bavarian countryside, a farmer tells his neighbours about strange happenings taking place in his farmstead. Footprints were found leading from the nearby forest to the farm and the family maid had resigned saying she felt like the property was haunted.
On April 4th the farmer and his family were found dead in their home, all killed with blows to the head. This began one of the most gruesome and puzzling unsolved murders in German history.
In this newest instalment of Cases of Conspiracy, we head back to 1922 Germany to examine this harrowing case. Why did someone target this family? Why did the killers stay behind days after the murder to look after the farm? Is this case linked to the growing rise of the far-right?
*warning: this episode contains depictions of child murder, animal harm and incest*
